County Commissioners serving as Board of Health: Your Role in Public Health Continuous Improvement

The Colorado Office of Public Health Practice, Planning, & Local Partnerships (OPHP), a division of CDPHE, has partnered with CCI to help county commissioners who also serve on their board of health complete their required annual training, per CRS 25-1-508. This training was held live on April 29, 2026 via CCI’s monthly educational series Webinar Wednesdaywhere staff connects members with experts on a variety of topics. The session included an overview of community health planning at the county & state level, links to local plans across the state, and discussion of a new tool: a board of health powers and duties checklist based on state statute. For member’s convenience, the training materials from that session are posted here. Those who couldn’t attend may still receive their certificate of completion from the state by following the instructions below:

Instructions

  1. Briefly review items 1-4 in the Training Materials section below
  2. Save/download items with recommended homework for your board:
    1. Item 3, board self-assessment
    2. Item 4, emergency management handout
  3. Open item 5 to watch the recorded training (duration: 40 mins)
    1. Open item 6 to follow along in the slide deck, if desired
    2. Open item 7 to follow along and answer the poll questions, if desired
  4. Once complete, scroll to the Certification Instructions section below and click the link to fill out the official form
