Overview

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Sept. 23 to establish new rules on Wildfire Mitigation Plans (WMP) and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) for Xcel Energy and Black Hills Energy. The PUC Staff’s full proposed draft rules are now available online at the link below.

On Wednesday, September 29, PUC staff and Director Rebecca White provided members with information about upcoming proceedings, WMP, and PSPS Plan rule making. This opportunity was the first of many stakeholder sessions for the Commission to hear comments and collect feedback about the proposed rules. These were drafted, in part, to help standardize terminology and coordination between the PUC, utility companies, and county officials during public safety power shutoffs.

County input is essential to the development of these new rules. Explore the materials below to learn more about the proposed rules and how you can get involved in the rulemaking process. There are several ways to provide feedback – check p.19 of the slide deck for details.
